Golden Oak Kitchen?

Golden Oak Kitchen?

Struggling with what to do with your outdated 80’s kitchen full of golden oak cabinets, white appliances and tired flooring?

You are not alone. Kitchens are the largest remodeling investment that homeowners are making right now, and if you foresee staying in your home for the next ten years, it can be the best investment you make.

Timeless design and clean looks are the best way to go. Gone are the dark cabinets and ornate designs as well. Classic white cabinetry, shaker design cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and easy to get to storage top the list.

Urban farmhouse and transitional (somewhere between traditional and contemporary) styles are the names designers use to describe the look.

The kitchen is truly the heart of the home, and when I interview my clients, these are the changes they are asking for:

  • A place to entertain
  • Clean look
  • A place to cook large meals
  • Room for more than one cook
  • More Storage
  • Easy to clean

Overwhelming? It doesn’t have to be. The biggest decision is deciding whether your cabinets are still in good shape, the design of them works, and the function still works for you. If you do keep them, a good painter or faux finisher can take care of that. New appliances might not fit back into the same spot….a good carpenter can make those adjustments.

Not keeping your cabinets opens up a whole new opportunity for change. A better layout, more functional (more drawers and less cabinets). Perhaps a new pantry and storage for larger pieces. Add a counter height island that everyone can gather around when entertaining.

Still overwhelmed? Your best investment can be to hire an interior designer. Why?

1. Ability to meld ideas of customers into one cohesive design.

2. Finding the right products for your project. There are so many choices out there and a designer can narrow it down.

3. Access to the best suppliers and contractors.

4. Project Management. Staying on schedule and staying within budget. Managing the timing and selections.
